Are companies Giving Out Smart Phones?

by admin on January 30, 2010

With the release of various smart phones are companies choosing to hand their employees the iPhone rather than get technology for their landlines like 0800 numbers and premium rate phone numbers?

The Reasons

Tracking

There are several reasons why companies are looking at handing out smart phones to many of their employees. Believe it or not many employees will do this to keep track of where their employees are and this is something many bosses love to do. You are then able to see exactly the reason why your employee has left the office. Have they really gone home ill or have they just left a bit early to go to a concert?

Kindness

If someone was to receive one of these phones then they are going to feel a hell of lot better about the company and feel like they are very valued. Giving your employees the latest technology just shows that you care about the people in the business and could actually help to boost the morale within the company making your employees work a lot harder than they did before.

More Work?

With the addition of things like e-mail and Facebook on the mobile it is possible for your employees to do their work wherever they are in the country. No more will the first 30+ minutes of the day be wasted answering emails as they can now do it all from home.

Negatives

One of the major downsides to doing something like this is actually the cost that you are going to get. A lot of the phones may be on pay as you go but to see the real benefits you are going to have to pay for contracts for the employees. It is certainly going to cost you a lot of money if you have a lot of people within the office itself.

You are still going to need systems like the fax to email in place as the smart phone is not quite clever enough to redirect faxes into an email format just yet.

Great treat for employees who will receive smart phones. Maybe it would spell easier access of your boss even on days off from work or when you call in sick for work, but, hey it has great features for personal use.
